Look What's Inside...

Clerk Required for Bowes Parish Council

This appointment is still vacant and needs filling as soon as possible.

Many of the tasks are straightforward and are now simply routine. Gordon, the present clerk, will ensure a comfortable handing-over period, during which he will give the successful applicant his full support.

The new clerk will find the councillors very helpful and supportive. Many other sources of advice and help are readily available.

Application form, job description, salary details etc., are available from Gordon Rowe at Corner House, Bowes. Why not come and have a chat with Gordon to see what is involved?

Refuse Collection in Bowes

Many residents have said they are still confused over when to put their rubbish out for collection. Refuse is normally collected on a Friday. This is only altered when a week includes a Bank Holiday, in which case the following usually applies:

Week containing - Refuse Collected
Good Friday - Thursday
Easter Monday - Saturday
First May Bank Holiday - Saturday
Second May Bank Holiday - Saturday
August Bank Holiday - Saturday

Collections over Christmas and New Year are more complicated, these will be advertised in the Teesdale Mercury during December.

Bowes Skip Facility
This skip is normally delivered on the third Monday of each month, and removed on the fourth Monday of each month.

Bowes Castle

The Parish Council have signed a local management agreement with English Heritage. This comes into effect on 1st April 1999. From that date, the Parish Council will look after all matters relating to the Castle precincts. It makes good sense to control these matters locally, rather than English Heritage have to send staff out from their centres at York and Newcastle. This agreement ensures that no extra costs will be borne by the Parish Council.

The Parish Council require a Bowes Castle Site Caretaker.

Applications are invited from residents of Bowes and Gilmonby for this part-time post which becomes available from the 1st April 1999. The duties include weekly visits to the site, to keep the site tidy and litter free and to report defects and damage to the Parish Clerk. The salary is up to £408 per year for approximately one and a half hours per week. The fabric of the castle is not involved, only the site, floodlights, perimeter walls, fences and gates.

Application form and further details are available from Gordon Rowe at Corner House. The cost of maintaining the post is being borne by English Heritage.
