Editorial

What a busy village we have this Christmas and New Year. School nativity play & disco. W.I. Children's Christmas Party. Music & songs at the Club. Rehearsed readings of Oliver Twist at the Unicorn. At the Village Hall, "Blaize of Glory", "Yule Tide Stomp", Domino Drive. Rosie and Michael Bettison's Torch & Lantern light procession. Millenium Bugs Ball and Disco. Fireworks. Something for everyone, so turn out and have a great time.

Council Notes

Community Policing: We now have a village bobby for the first time in years. P.C. Mike Hendy will be seen around the village along with Sergeant Ian Gatiss. Both are based in Barnard Castle so if you have a problem they can help. Their telephone number is 637328.

Cemetary: The gate capitals are to be rearranged and fixed, the entrance is to be paved and the gates repaired and repainted. Provision of a ramp to the lower section considered and hand rails for the steps.

Conservation Foundation Millenium Yew Trees: These were collected by two of the Parish Councillors in October, one each for Bowes and Gilmonby. They will be planted when they are bigger as they are only 9 inches high at present.

Parish Hall

Work on the new toilet block starts January. Other housekeeping has been a new front to stage, re-hanging curtains, reconnecting supper room wall lights and clearing out the balcony room. The W.I. have kindly offered to repaint the main hall, so it will look good for the Millenium.

Internet Connection: There is a good chance that a computer may be available for use by anyone in the two villages, with some training for users. More on this later in the year.

River Greta Theatre

Presently leaderless, since Rita Mitchell's move from the parish. Anyone fancy running a theatre company? If so, contact Cliff Brown on 628373.
