Hi, Found your canny website when searching for info on the Bowes Museum. Having spent Half of my 43 years within 4 miles of Bowes I find it remarkable so much can be said about the place!!! Sorry, I say that with tongue in cheek. It's historical value is well recorded and the village should (and no doubt is) proud of it.
My reason for writing this is to ask if any local browsers remember the Friday night beat Dances of the early seventies (an important part of Bowes recent history and many young peoples lives, me included!). The nights were always a challenge, especially when trying to convince Arther at the Unicorn we were 18 years old. Recollections to me please to help an aging Disco King to bring the memories flooding back.

Hi Bowes people,
I used to live in Scargill and went to Bowes primary school with my brother Rodney in the mid 70's. Mr Kent was the principal we left England in 1982 when I was just into high school.
Love Bowes, and have many happy memories. I have been trying to talk my husband into living in North England for a year (with not much success), do any bricklayers want to do a swap. We vist every couple of years, and love to get any visitors from Bowes.
