Bowes Show 2001
The 115th Annual Bowes Show in 2001 was cancelled due to the Foot and Mouth
crisis which was affecting Great Britain in 2001. The illness did not affect
animals directly around Bowes village, but farmers were very badly affected by the
movement bans and their inability to sell their livestock, and many surrounding farms were
badly affected. Other local businesses were also badly affected by the restrictions
which reduced tourism and other non-agricultural business from proceeding normally.
